Slavery exist, because people want others to do the work for them. They find it easier to have slaves work for nothing than to call someone to come to get the job done and pay them for it after. Slavery has changed a little but not a lot.  Teenage girl's are still giving themselves away for little pay to help out their family. Slavery was important to pre-Civil War United States and some modern countries because our economy wouldn't have come this far, and because it produces a lot of goods.
